Introduction Link to heading After watching the SpaceX Falcon9 CRS-24 Launch (which was fantastic, albeit cloudy and rainy) at Space View Park in Titusville, Florida, I went to a highly rated bakery and coffee shop in town called Sunrise Bread Company. I got setup and was ready to dive into work when I found myself becoming quickly frustrated by networking issues. In particular, websites wouldn’t load due to what appeared to be networking issues.

At work we use Dell laptops with Intel I218-LM network interface cards. We have issues with severe network degradation in uplink traffic on the hosts, averaging between 300 to 400 Kbps. This degradation only occurs on one of our switches, though–a Cisco 3560 series. For the longest time, PC support has had to manually modify the adapter properties on each host to enable Legacy Switch Compatibility Mode, found under the advanced tab in the Ethernet adapter properties dialog box, in order to resolve the problem.

If you are using a Sonicwall Firewall, you may be interested in learning how to setup Virtual Private Network access to utilize network resources away from the workplace, assuming, of course, you’ve paid for the VPN licenses…
This post sprouts from an issue with Windows 7 64-bit and Sonicwall Global VPN Client 64-bit v4.2.6.0305 (the latest version as of the date of this post.) A client of mine had a strange issue where occasionally, the VPN connection would not work quite right.

Not too long ago, I gave my brother a decent Pentium 4 Dell PC. Now that I brought him a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, he decided he wants to use it to run an IRC server. There is a bit of a hiccup, however. The PC can only connect to the network via wired Ethernet. There are not any Ethernet jacks in his room. He already has two laptops; one laptop cannot connect to the Wireless LAN so his other laptop acts as a router between it and the network.
